Top 5 essential things to pack when camping

Motorcycle camping can be a fun and adventurous way to explore the great outdoors, but it’s important to be prepared and bring the necessary items to ensure a successful trip. Here are some of the top things to take when motorcycle camping.

  1. Shelter: A tent, bivy, or swag is ideal for motorcycle camping, as it provides a place to sleep and protects you from the elements. Make sure to bring a tarp if you’re sleeping in a bivy or swag for extra shelter if it rains.
  2. Sleeping bag: A suitable sleeping bag is essential for staying warm and comfortable while camping. Choose a sleeping bag rated for the temperature range you will camp in and, ideally, is lightweight and compact for easy packing on your motorcycle.
  3. Water and food: It’s vital to stay hydrated and nourished while motorcycle camping, so be sure to bring enough water and non-perishable food for the duration of your trip. Easy-to-prepare meals like energy bars, tin soup, MREs, and snacks like jerky.
  4. Navigation and communication tools: It’s important to have a way to navigate and communicate while on the road. Bring a map, GPS device, or smartphone with a reliable mapping app such as Gaia GPS.
  5. Personal hygiene and first aid kit: Basic personal hygiene items like toothpaste, soap, and a towel are essential for maintaining good personal hygiene while camping over multiple days. Be sure to also pack a first aid kit in case of any emergencies.

Other items to consider bringing on a motorcycle camping trip include a small stove or cookware for preparing meals, a flashlight or headlamp, sunscreen and bug spray. It’s also a good idea to bring along clothing and personal items that are appropriate for the weather and environment, as well as any necessary tools or repair kits in case of any unexpected issues with your motorcycle.
