When it comes time to pack your motorcycle for a camping trip, don’t stress! Just consider what you really need and leave the rest at home. With a little bit of planning, you can easily streamline your gear so your bike remains light and nimble—allowing you to enjoy the ride even more. After all, isn’t that what we all want? To enjoy the journey as much as the destination?
Here’s a list of items I take that fit snugly in my Kriega US-30 Tailbag, from top left to right:
- Sea To Summit Spark SpII Sleeping Bag
- Alton Ultralight Sleeping Mat
- DD Superlight Tarp
- Sea To Summit Aeros Ultralight Pillow
- Helinox Chair
- Vango Blade 200 Two-Person Tent
- Sea to Summit Titanium Spork
- TOAKS Titanium Pot
- Dog and Gun Coffee
- Wildo Fold-A-Cup
- Pathfinder Fuel Stove
All that’s missing is an MRE for dinner, a bottle of water for coffee and hydration in the morning, and if I think it’s going to be a cold night I’ll usually throw in my down-packable jacket. Oh, and a flask of my favourite whisky.
So, if you’re ever feeling spontaneously adventurous or want to get away from it all for a night, and enjoy day out riding without being weighed down, just remember all you need are the three essentials, Shelter, Sleep System and Food. Now pack your bike and head out for an overnighter!
