I’ve had my Garmin inReach Mini for a few years now, and I love it. It’s packed full of features and gives me peace of mind should something go wrong, help will be on the way. But I’ve only ever used it to text that I’ve arrived at my camp for the night. Besides that, it sits attached to the shoulder strap on my backpack, usually covered in dead bugs.
And I think a lot of other motorcycle adventure riders are the same. Which got me thinking, would I be better off with the Garmin inReach Messenger instead? Let’s explore each device’s features and see which is right for you.

The inReach Mini2 features:
- Up to 14 days of battery life in 10-minute tracking mode.
- USB-C Interface.
- Add up to 1,000 waypoints/favourites/locations.
- TracBack Routing.
- Up to 100 Courses.
- Up to 200 Activities.
- Digital Compass.
- Group Messaging.
- Compatible with the Garmin Messenger app.
- Compatible with the Garmin Explore app

The inReach Messenger features:
- Up to 28 days of battery life with a message or location sent every 10 minutes.
- USB-C Interface.
- Group Messaging
- Safety Charging.
- Check-In Messages.
- Compatible with the Garmin Messenger App.
- Activate a subscription service directly through the Messenger App.
So which one is right for you? You can’t go wrong with either one. If you want an excellent device for navigation, route planning and the Garmin Explorer App, inReach Mini is your best bet. On the other hand, if saving a few dollars, extra battery life, and check-in messages whilst still having the SOS feature is all that’s required, an inReach Messenger will take care of business just fine.
