Motorcycle Camping Gear to get you started

With summer approaching and the days getting longer, it’s the perfect time of the year to escape the urban sprawl and spend a night or two under the stars.

A weekend away on your motorcycle doesn’t have to be an iron butt challenge, chances are there’s a camp spot or caravan park not too far away from your favourite roads.

You don’t need a lot of gear to start with when motorcycle camping. With the right essentials, you can keep your bike light, pack small and still get a good night sleep.

Vango Blade 200 Two-person Tent
I choose a two-person over a one is it allows you the extra space to store your gear without compromising too much on packed size.

The great thing about the Vango Blade 200 is it has only one pole for fast pitching, and it’s lightweight, has plenty of headroom for getting changed and packs down small

You’ll have it set-up and a cold beer in your hand in no time at all.

Roman Palm Lite Ultra Sleeping Bag
Just like its name suggests, this sleeping bag fits in the palm of your hand. There’s also a lifetime warranty on the tough SBS zippers which feature an anti-snag system, ideal for when you’re trying to climb into bed with a belly full of booze. It’s ideal for the summer months and like it’s compact size it also has a relatively small price

Sea to Summit Ultra-Light sleeping mat
If slumber is your primary concern after a big day in the saddle look no further than the Sea to Summit Ultra-Light sleeping mat, not only is it comfortable, it takes less than a minute to blow up. Well worth taking just for peace of mind.

Sea to Summit Aeros Pillow
Whilst using your rolled up motorcycle jacket as a pillow may seem like an acceptable alternative, you’re relying on getting to your destination nice and dry. Instead you could try a small compressible pillow for that little bit of extra comfort for a good night sleep.

Ultralight Folding Camping Chair
I’d recommend taking a chair if you can. Sitting on the cold ground without any back support is a drain and will make your first time camping a miserable experience. I can’t recommend Helinox chairs highly enough, but if camping isn’t a regular thing or you’re on a budget any chair will do, just make sure it has some sort of back support.

Ortlieb Rack Pack
You’re going to need somewhere to store all your camping gear. All of the above will fit comfortably into a dry bag like a medium sized Ortlieb Rack-Pack that will strap onto the back of even the smallest of motorcycles.

If you’re camping any where near civilisation you won’t need to worry about cooking gear, find the local pub for a decent feed and grab some take-away booze for the camp fire.

You can get most of the above online from places like Wildearth, Snowys and Amazon and be out camping by next weekend.
