The hiking tent for motorcyclists

Motorcycle camping is an excellent way to enjoy the outdoors, and even more so when you have the right gear.

When I was shopping around for a tent, the main thing I was looking for was size and ease of setting up, being on a motorcycle weight is never an issue.

I looked at one person tents due to their size but after a bit of research realised I’d be a little cramped if I had to sleep in there with all my gear or if I decided to bring my partner along.

So I opted for the Vango Blade 200 Two-person hiking tent, it packs down to a smallish 48cm x 12cm which fits into my Ortlieb dry bag perfectly. And if you’re a weight watcher it comes in at 2kg.

If you keep the pole separate, the tent can be packed down even smaller by putting it in a compression bag. I’ve got it down to about 11cm x 10cm.

It’s easy to set-up and has just one lightweight alloy pole that goes through the centre of the tent to hold it up. In summer I don’t bother with the flysheet, and it’s a nice way to end your day sleeping under the stars.

The tent vestibule can be opened from either side allowing you to block out any inclement weather, or rolled up completely to give an open porch to take in the views. It’s also a good place to put your boots and cooking gear, as it zips up and keeps everything dry overnight.

I’ve used it quite a bit in winter, and it keeps the rain and frost out. Condensation isn’t a problem either as it seems to pass through the breathable mesh on the inner and onto the outer flysheet so anything touching the walls stays dry.

The other thing I like about the Vango Blade 200 is the ability to sit-up entirely and get changed; it’s deceptively roomy inside. Check out my YouTube review

Overall I can’t fault the Vango Blade 200, it hasn’t let me down, and after four-years of using it, it’s still in one piece.

You can get the Vango Blade 200 from Amazon or there’s an updated version, Vango Blade Pro 200 from Wild Earth
